All My Sons

I believe that Annie and Chris will get married. I think they really do love each other and want to be together. George calls from Columbus and says he needs to talk to Annie. I have not figured out why George needs to talk to Annie. It could be something about their father. I still think it could change the ending of the play. I'm not real sure on why Chris's dad is weary about George coming. Maybe he found out something he shouldn't and he is trying to help his dad get out of jail.

Fire

The role of fire represents the opposite as it does in the bible. This symbolizes the death in the hands of the Nazi's. The babies set on fire in the ditch. The crematoriums in the concentration camps.

Night

Many of the terrible things happen at night. Elie sees a truck load of babies throw into a fire. That fire lit up the night sky. Night is also a symbol that shows that God is not present. Elie even says that there is a dark whole that took over him. So instead of thinking about the night he concentrates on food, warmth, and rest. This is a great picture for this symbol because even though it is dark outside there is still beauty showing through and that is what Elie and the other Jews lack is beauty of the night.

The Importance of Father-Son Bonding

This theme is very important because about three different times Elie sees the cruelity that sons do to their fathers. They sacrific their fathers for their own safety. He and his father have such a love for each other that they would not do anything to hurt each other because all they have is each other. They are their own support system. I think this is a good picture because it shows a boy and his father running a race just like the run in night that Elie and his father had to do. They are side by side helping each other. Love overcomes these family members feelings toward each other.

Inhumanity to Other Humans

In the Holocaust the Germans at first were very polite to the Jews and reassuring them. As time went on the Germans began to be very brutal and cruel to the Jews. Elie first experiences this in the concentration camps where the victims of the Holocaust were basically walking skeletons. This shows that innocent people can be victims of an outrage. Millions of Jews were slaughtered because of their beliefs. Being kept in the camps for so long the victims began to turn on each other. Fathers and sons killing each other for a morsel of bread crumbs. Elie didn't know how to really handle this situation, but he to was also changing.

Silence

Silence is another theme of the book, and it basically says that God was quiet when all this was happening to the Jews of the Holocaust. Elie wonders why God was silent and did nothing to help the Jews when they were such worshipers of him. It also states that the world and everyone other than the victims of the Holocaust was silent. Maybe if someone would have spoken in the Jews behalf this wouldn't have went on for so long. This is a good picture for this theme because who would want to talk when they have stitches in their mouth. No one because it would hurt.

Eliezer's Struggle to Maintain Faith in a Benevolent God

Elie grew up thinking that God was good and everything that had to deal with God was good. So therfor why wouldn't the world be good? He then realizes the cruel and hateful things that are being done to him and other jews of the Holocaust. This picture represents this theme very well because it is showing how powerful God is and how much bigger he is than anything else in the world.
